Operating from two main secondary sorting centers, located in Zalka and at the Domaine de Taanayel, the unit processes recyclable materials collected from individuals, partners and drop-off points across Lebanon.
These drop-off points are set up in collaboration with a wide range of partners, including universities, schools, companies, and municipalities, making recycling accessible to the broader community. Once collected, recyclables are sent to the sorting centers for further separation and quality control before being delivered to specialized recycling companies for proper processing.
Beyond operational sorting, the DERE unit plays a critical role in environmental education and outreach. The team delivers awareness sessions and workshops on waste sorting, recycling, and sustainable waste management practices, targeting schools, universities, businesses, and municipalities.
Through these combined efforts, the DERE unit helps reduce landfill waste, encourage circular economy practices by retrieving material and reducing imports, and foster a culture of environmental responsibility across Lebanon.
