Built in 2009 following the establishment of the Ecolodge de Taanayel, Khan el Maksoud draws inspiration from the historical concept of a "Khan" or caravanserail, a place in the Arab world where travelers could rest, find shelter, and trade goods during their journeys.
Staying true to this spirit of hospitality and openness, the restaurant is designed to bring together families, couples, and groups, offering a warm and authentic atmosphere. Guests can enjoy affordable, home-cooked Lebanese dishes, prepared with fresh, locally sourced ingredients from the Domaine’s own production and nearby farmers.
In addition to welcoming day visitors, Khan El Maksoud also provides meals for guests staying at the Ecolodge, a youth hostel member of Hosteling International, allowing overnight visitors to experience local flavors and traditional Lebanese hospitality.
Operating with a strong social mission, the restaurant offers employment opportunities for vulnerable individuals and runs hot meal distribution programs to support communities in need in the surrounding area. Its operations follow sustainable practices, with a focus on reducing food waste, responsible sourcing, and minimizing environmental impact.
